Unable to connect to my LAN connection... 'identifying network problem'
I just got back from college and my laptop has been unable to connect to the internet, and this is the first time I've had this problem. Vista is stuck in an 'identifying network' phase and I'm stuck with limited connectivity to an 'unidentified network'. I've tried unplugging my modem and all the other options windows networkdiagnostics has presented me, but nothing works. The latest solution the windows network diagnostics presented is there might be a problem with one or more adapters on this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Thank you for posting. May I know how you connect to Internet, via a router, or dial-up directly? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please remove and reinstall your network devices drivers to see if it works. If there is a new version of driver, please also try it to see how it works. If you have other network adapters which is not in use, please also disable it. 2. Please boot the computer to Safe Mode with networking and check if you can access Internet. 3. If you connect to Internet via a router, please check: 1) If you have other computers on the same network, can they connect Internet? 2) Please check if the problematic computer can access the router with pinging the IP Address or visiting the router management webpage. 3) Please refer to the following Knowledge Base: Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 Meanwhile, please run CMD and then ipconfig /all to export all the network status information on the problematic and post it to this thread for our further research. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
