Unable to configure Windows 7 VPN
I'm having problems configuring the Windows 7 VPN service on a 64bit machine. I have run through the process of creating the "incoming connections" numerous times, it doesn't error but it also doesn't configure the functionality properly. When I test the port by running netstat -aon | find "1723" I get no response, just blank. I've researched and read many (many) posting on this forum and others and found nothing yet that's helped. Many posting use terminology along the lines of "when you run netstat -aon you should see port 1723" - I understand that, but I don't see it. It simply returns a blank. The RRAS service is running, I can't add the MMC snap-in because it's Windows 7 - I've downloaded the admin pack but it's not an option. Testing a print route on this machine with another (that works) returns the same basic lines. It's a new name-brand machine running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. Very little additional software added to it, nothing network related. Thanks in advance.

You did follow instructions likle these ones http://www.thewindowsclub.com/configure-vpn-connection-windows ? Are there any traces in Event logs? Do all services run? Regards Milos

I have set it up following the instructions like that; there's already an entry in the windows firewall but the issue persists whether the firewall is enabled or disabled and with the A/V (MS Security Essentials) enabled and disabled. There's nothing apparent in the event logs, I just rolled them and will see if anything shows up. The RRAS service is running and I can stop/start it with no errors: not sure what additional services may be required other than that one. Appreciate the response and the help.

Hi, Firstly, would you please let us know what you want achieve? Is it that you would like to remote to this machine? If so, Windows Live Mesh can achieve this easily. In addition, regarding no result of netstat -aon | find "1723", based on my knowledge, it may due to no process using the port currently. Still having trouble with this, not sure how else to explain the issue other than what I've written above. I guess I've run into a 1-of-a-kind problem. Figured I'd "bump" this once and then let it go and give up. Thanks.

Same problem here. Changed dynamic IP address to static IP. Everything was working with dynamic. Then vhanged IP, keep the same setting on the server, router etc (well except IP address, Gateway and DNSs), but now it doesn't work. Checked Firewall: TCP 1723 is enabled and allowed. When, running netstat, there are no 1723 port.
