Unable to complete Forefront install - Endless loop

Unable to complete install of Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console 2010 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

- Server is part of the domain
- Created an OU that has NO GPO's applied with the block inheritance checked and placed server object into it
-  Installed all prerequisites

- Microsoft Chart controls
- .Net 3.5
- IIS
- SQL on separate server

It asks for whether I want Express or Enterprise.  I select Enterprise and then click Check prerequisites.  Next it says the following prerequisites need to be installed: Microsoft Optional Components, would you like them installed now?  I click Yes.  It then goes back to the check prerequisites screen/prompt with the options of Express or Enterprise.  It NEVER exits this loop.

Thanks

Hi,

Please try to re-download the setup file and install on another fresh server to see if the same issue appears.

Best Regards,

Joyce

Hi there! Did you solve this issue yet? I got the same issue... I suspect something like windows wants to install additional components, but cannot do so, because it needs an alternate path and you cannot enter the alternate path.

By the way, the anwser below is not the anwser I would say...

Got it! You need to install the IIS prerequisites for FPSMC because the install probably fails because it cannot access an alternate source for the installation files and you cannot enter a path. I installed the prerequisites described on:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg507744.aspx

FPSMC installs the following IIS subcomponents: IIS-WebServerRole, IIS-DefaultDocument, IIS-StaticContent, IIS-RequestFiltering, IIS-WebServerManagementTools, IIS-IIS6ManagementCompatibility, IIS-Metabase, IIS-WMICompatibility, IIS-LegacyScripts, IIS-ManagementScripting Tools, IIS-ManagementService, IIS-ManagementConsole, IIS-Security, IIS-BasicAuthentication,IIS-DigestAuthentication, IIS-WindowsAuthentication, IIS-ISAPIExtensions, IIS-ISAPIFilter, IIS-NetFxExtensibility, IIS-ASPNet, NetFx2Server Core, NetFx3ServerCore, and NetFx3.

Hi there. Have you managed to find a solution to this issue? I'm having the same drama, after ensuring al lthe required components are present. I'm trying to install it on Server 2012 R2 but cannot find anything to indicate incompatibility...Any ideas? Thanks!

UPDATE: Having not found a solution to this issue, I progressed my solution deployment by installing VMware Update Manager (vUM) on the affected server. Just for sh!ts and giggles I tried the FPSMC install again and Presto! it worked. I tried the FPSMC install on another server which still failed; then I tried insalling vUM on this affected server - still failing. Not entirely sure why, but at least I'll now be able to clone the good server to progress my solution. Any assistance on the issue would still be appreciated as I need to do this on multiple servers in the PROD environment. Thanks!
