Unable to change Lan manager authentication level
Our company recently purchased a Buffalo Terastation NAS. i need to change the Lan Manager authentication level from defaults to : Send LM& NTLM - use NTLM v2 session security if negotiated" however when i go into group policy, i do not have the ability to change the value, it is greyed out and will not let me select anything. how do i change this value on Server 2008 R2 standard ?

See if this can help. If the GPO is grayed out then you don't have the right to modify it. Changing that through the registry is not recommended. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa LmCompatibilityLevel http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc960646.aspx

And what happens, if you change that in the registry as Brano showed you? If that dos not work, too you may need to change the permissions for this registry entry. Wolfgang

Hi, This type issue occurs means your account do not have enough permission to edit the group policy. If you system is under the domain, youd better to contact the Domain Administrator and check the permission. You can refer to the mentioned above to edit the registry value for a test also.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support
