Unable to access shared folder
I am facing a very annoying problem. I have a home server with Windows Server 2003, and my desktop with Windows 7 professional. The only role the server has is to share files, and there is no Active Directory, or any other thing, just the simple file server role. Now, when I try to browse the server, I am prompted to provide credentials, user/passwordd. We use the server's local accounts, so the server username is like: fileserver/user. The poblem is, I type the correct password, but I'm prompted again, and again, and again. No matter which account I try, it doesn't work. I did like 1 day research on the net, but I wasn't able to find anything that worked. I tried everything, but still not working. If anyone can help me,I cannot access my server.

You have omitted important information: Is this new system or the system worked previously. There are some situations when the combination of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 do not cooperate. I would use network monitor to pinpoint the problem and focus on packet exchanges, protocols, etc. Regards Milos

Hi , make sure the account name called user is enabled or not. if you are not using domain. then try to enable the local administrator account on the server and set the password. and then try to use the adminstrator password for shared folder access. make sure you have shared the foldermake sure networking and sharing is enabled on the particular server please let us know the result.

Hi, We may test the issue via the steps below. 1. Click Start, type in Secpol.msc and press Enter. 2. Expand "Local Policies" and select "Security Options" 3. Locate "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" in the list and double-click it. 4. Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated" 5. Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Based (including secure RPC) Clients 6. Change the setting from "require 128 bit" to unchecked (No Minimum) 7. Click OK, and exit.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support
