Hi ampsrite, ·Do you receive anyerror message or error code when you try to access the files? Follow the below methods and check: Method 1:Boot both the computers in safe mode with networking and try to access the files. To boot the computer in safe mode with networking:a. Restart the computer and press and hold F8 key (Press and hold f8 key before the windows logo).b. From the advanced boot option select ‘Safe mode with networking’. Method 2:Temporarily disable the firewall and the security software on the Windows XP computer and try to access the file. NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks. Method 3:Make sure that the Guest account is set up for network access. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.b. Type the net user guest, and then press ENTER.If the account is active, a line appears in the output of the command that has the following format: Account active: Yesc. If the account is not active, type net user guest /active:yes, and then press ENTER to give the Guest account network access. The following text returns after the command:d. The command completed successfully. If you receive any other response, make sure that you are logged on as an administrator, and then confirm that you typed the command correctly before you try again. I find that command line errors are more descriptive with problems like this. From the Vista machine, bring up a command prompt window (Windows Key + R then "cmd"). When the command window comes up, enter the following command: net use \\computerxp\ipc$Where you substitute the network name (or IP address) of your xp machine for "computerxp" in the above command.Let us know what error messages your receive.HTH, JW

Hi Samhrutha G,I have previously tried all of your suggestions at least once, some twice, with the same results. I have evenchanged the router to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless, same result. The Vista home premium SP2 can recognizethe XP home basic SP3, but can not access. Access is always denied, error code: 0x80070005.All other aspects of the networks are as they should be. Thanx much for your time and efforAmpsrite

Regarding the "net use" command... the results you received show that your syntax for the command was incorrect.Did you perhaps use slashes (//) instead of back-slashes (\\)?JW

Hi Samhrutha G,Thanx much for your time. I don't reply as quick as you might expect, cause I don't have the time, but I REALLY do appreciate your efforts.I have tried something, that has worked excellently. I have a spare hard drive for this laptop, which hasXP SP2 installed. I shutdown and replaced the hard drive with XP SP3 with hard drive having XP SP2.After boot-up, I used the network set up wizard, and WA-LAA, everything worked as it should. Both pc'ssee and access each other as should be.I have checked everything that can be thought of between SP2 and SP3, and can not even come closeto finding why. When I swap Hrd Drvs, SP3 still does not allow access from another computer. After conversing with other people, I have found this to be the ONLY solution that works consistently. If you have any thoughts and/or explanations to this occurence, I would very much appreciate yourthoughts.THANX MUCH,Ampsrite

Hi Wunders,Thank you very much for your time and effort..As to your last question, yes I did not do as I should have. Have tried every solution possible, to no avail.I have since tried something, that worked out excellently. The problem was not at all with Vista Home PremiumSP2, it WAS with XP Home Basic SP3. I have a spare hard drive for this computer, that has XP SP2 installed.I replaced the SP3 hard drive with the SP2 hard drive, ran the Windows Network Set Up Wizard, and all wascorrected. Everything works as one would expect. Apparently SP3 was the problem. If you have anyanswers or thoughts of how to make the SP3 work as the SP2, I would VERY MUCH like to hear them, as theSP3 hrd drv is the one I prefer.THANX VERY MUCH for your time and efforts
