In addition to AZ's excellent ideas you should also run a malwarebytes scan Please download the free version of Malwarebytes. Update it immediately. Do a full system scan Let us know the results at the end. http://www.malwarebytes.org/productsMS-MVP 2010, 2011, 2012 Sysnative.com Team ZigZag

Hello, I'm having problems accessing my shared files and folders because the server service is not started. I get the following 2 errors in the system windows log approximately every 5 minutes: The Server service depends on the Server SMB 1.xxx Driver service which failed to start because of the following error: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. And The Server SMB 1.xxx Driver service failed to start due to the following error: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. I checked the srv.sys file from another (working) computer and the files seem to be the same as far as modification dates, versions and other details under properties go. I tried to manually copy the file over but Windows denied me access. Does anybody know a fix for this?

@Alex - I tried booting into Clean Boot mode and it still didn't work, I'm still getting the same errors in the event viewer. I also tried SFC and the problem wasn't fixed, I looked at the log file and found the following error: 2012-10-16 06:01:58, Info CSI 00000162 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:14{7}]"srv.sys" of Microsoft-Windows-SMBServer-v1, Version = 6.1.7601.17608, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch 2012-10-16 06:02:01, Info CSI 00000164 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:14{7}]"srv.sys" of Microsoft-Windows-SMBServer-v1, Version = 6.1.7601.17608, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch 2012-10-16 06:02:01, Info CSI 00000165 [SR] This component was referenced by [l:154{77}]"Package_1_for_KB2536275~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.2536275-4_neutral_GDR" 2012-10-16 06:02:01, Info CSI 00000168 [SR] Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:62{31}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32\drivers"\[l:14{7}]"srv.sys"; source file in store is also corrupted @ZigZag - I installed malwarebytes, updated and did a full system scan and found no malware. Thank you both for your help, do you have any more ideas? :)

Hello everybody, I just wanted to update you. I fixed the problem. I had to take ownership of srv.sys so that i was able to grant myself full control of the file and delete it. I then copied the file from another computer, rebooted and it worked. Thanks again for your help it was appreciated!
