Unable to Share Vista Hard Drive with XP
I've done some research on this but haven't found the answer. I have an older Windows XP desktop computer and a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. From the Vista laptop, I can access the files from the XP computer fine. However, I
cannot access files on the Vista laptop from the XP desktop computer.
Here are the settings for the Vista laptop:
In Network and Sharing Center, Sharing and Discovery, Public Folder Sharing is On. Password protected sharing is off.
On the hard drive I want to share, Under properties->sharing tab->advanced sharing the Share This Folder box is checked, and under permissions, Everyone is selected as well as Full Control.
However, from my XP desktop when I try to access the drive, I receive an error dialogue that indicates that the computer is not accesible and I don't have permission to access it.
What am I missing?
Thanks,

You mention ‘sharing a drive’ and then ‘sharing a folder’.
Have you tried starting from scratch? If not, share the Vista drive by right-clicking Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management,
then right-click the drive graphic > Properties >
Sharing Tab > Advanced Sharing > tick Share this folder and type in a Share Name > Apply > OK.
Now go to the
Security Tab > Edit > Add then type ‘Everyone’ (not the quotes) > Check Names > OK and below it select your preferences, e.g. Full Control, etc. > Apply >
Reply Yes to any security message > Keep pressing OK to any ‘deny’ messages > OK, etc. to finish.
