Unable to RDP into Server 2003 Enterprise edition from Win 7 Pro
I am using Windows 7 Professional Upgrade as a dual boot with Vista Ultimate on a separate HD of my PC. Using a CISCO VPN client, I am able to establish connection with our ASA 5505 in the data center. However, while using Remote Desktop to connect with the server, I am unable to do so. I get a message stating that the server is not responding. If I switch back to my XP OS using the CISCO VPN client, I can connect to the server. The Server is running Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2. I am in the admin group on the server and make frequent rdp connections using XP. Iam using the server IP address and not the Computer name.

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Win7? If you're running 64-bit, the standard Cisco VPN client won't work, you need AnyConnect: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/"Fear disturbs your concentration"

Sorry... I forgot to mention I am using 32 bit. The CISCO VPN client is establishing connection, I just cannot rdp into the server.

Pings OK? Can you do other stuff in the datacenter like telnet'ing to a router, etc?"Fear disturbs your concentration"

I am having similar issue. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate v6.1.7600and the latest Cisco VPN client 5.0.06.0110 (Cisco says Win7 32-bit compatible.) I am able to connect to ASA5505 and receive IP address on VPN adapter on Win7. It will not ping, it will not connect via RDP, nada. On same remote network I have XP Pro machine working just fine.I have disabled firewall via Control Panel/Firewall/. On the Cisco VPN client statistics screen it shows thatI am sending packets but am not receiving anything back. Cisco VPN uses UDP Port 4500. What is Windows 7 blocking that XP was not?

I just figured it out. When I was connecting from my XP machine I was able to use the internal/private IPs. However, with Win7 I must use the public IPs;as soon as I switched to those I connected without a hitch. Thank you for your timelyreplies.

Hey gtfeld, see my above comment; hopefully it will apply to you as well. I wish you the best.

mannewI am not following you. I only have one static public IP and that is on the outside of my ASA5505. My windows7 IP that I use to get on/connect to internet at my remote location is from a linksys dsl router (private IP)which in turn gets a dynamic IP (Public)from my provider. I actually am getting a private IP from my ASA5505 on my remotewindows 7 to the Cisco VPN adapter but I am not receiving anything back to the Win 7 Cisco VPN adapter after it gets its IP. When you go to statistics on the Cisco VPN client I see a 0 under Bytes Received. I have an increasing number under Bytes Sent but nothing under Bytes Received. Can you explain more about what you mean. What/How did you switch?

Sorry, I should have clarified our setup a little better. We are running a Dell blade server located in a Data Center. Within that Server we have four Virtual Machines Running: 1 Wiki, 2 Server 2003 and 1 Server 2008, all of which have static public IP addresses, i.e., 74.xxx.xx.xx. However, with NAT enabled they also have an internal private IP in the 10.xx.xx.xx range. While connecting via CISCO VPN client on my XP machine I could RDP into the servers using the 10.xx.xx.xx IPs. However, when trying to remote from the Win 7 machine I could not. So, after setting up RDP to the public 74.xxx.xx.xx IPs I could connect fine with the Win 7 box.
