Unable to Print or File Share from one PC on my network
Hi - I have Win XP, just recently I had some issues w/my main pc and haven't been able to print or file share. I think something got corrupted w/ McAfee. Registry Mechanic showed 5 McAfee files it couldn't fix. I tried uninstalling McAfee a few times to no avail. When restarting the PC, it would freeze at various pts in startup (after WinXP started). I ran chkdsk a few times, and finally got that to work. Then Registry Mechanic was able to clean up those McAfee files. I then uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee. PC still does not startup completely all the time. McAfee can see the network of other pcs but I can't seem to setup the network in XP. I can't view any other workgroup pc. And my other pc does not see the problem pc. When I set up the network, then look at My Computer/System Properties/Computer Name - it doesn't show the computer description I had put in. It's like it doesn't set it up at all. The file share error is : "error occurred while trying to share file. The Server service is not started. Share resource not created". Any Ideas ?? Thanks Chuck1 person needs an answerI do too

To be honest when something like McAfee goes that far wrong I start to think about flattening the machine and rebuilding it from scratch. You could try going to a command prompt and running SFC /SCANNOW (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/system_file_checker.mspx?mfr=true) and see if that finds/fixes anything but who knows what McAfee mucked up in your system. You could spend a lot longer chasing down little messes than just flattening it and starting over.-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
