Unable to Add Network Printer to Windows 8.1 Laptop Via Add Printer->TCP/IP Port

Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me with my issue. I am trying to install a network printer (Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8400) to a company laptop that has Windows 8.1.

Normally, I just install the printer via the Control Panel "Add a Printer" function. However, when I try to manually enter the printer's IP Address, I get the message: "cannot load wizard pages for standard tcp/ip port". I've tried looking online for help, and even contacted Canon's support techs. However, they referred me to Windows. I have downloaded all the drivers and even the device setup utility. But, I am still unable to add the printer.

I can ping the printer via the command prompt, and the device setup utility program is able to detect the printer. So, I have no idea what is going on. Help please!

(Guess) What do you have in Windows Features under Print and Document Services? (Win-w Tu Fe)

Hi,

For this problem, firstly, please follow the steps of the link below to add network printer through TCP/IP.

http://www.jmu.edu/computing/helpdesk/selfhelp/win7tcpipprinting.shtml

If problem persists, follow the steps below to remove third party printer monitor in Registry for test:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\

You need to delete the others and only keep the following:

After that, restart the computer for test.

first ping the ip address of printer for online. If it's asnwering to ping then add printer by local printer. And when adding the local printer create the new TCP/IP port and type the printer ip address there. Select that port and install the driver from USB or location of printer drivers manually.

Also be sure that print spooler service is enable and started

To check that. goto to: Start--> Run-->> type: services.msc-->enter--> on opened list of services find the Print spooler and check it.

Other way to find that service open control panel -->> administrative tools--> services
