Unable to Access Internet after SP3
I've reviewed lots of articles and postings related to issues related to XP SP3, but I'm hoping someone can shortcut my troubleshooting a bit.I'm running an older eMachine (T6520) with an AMD Athlon 64 processor. The OS is XP MEC version 2002 with SP3. I've had some trouble with this computer associated with some system programs not functioning, the most obvious one being System Restore. I recently posted on this site for some help with getting missing files restored, but have not yet had luck resolving that issue. I don't care as much about that, provided I can access the internet, which will be the primary use of this computer.Everything was working ok, until I installed SP3, after which I was unable to access the internet. I tried to uninstalled SP3, but keep getting an error related to a missing file. I was about ready to do a full system restore from CD, but then I restarted into the safe mode "with networking," and was actually able to access the internet. This makes me think there is some sort of security setting that's preventing me from accessing the internet. I've temporarily turned off my Windows firewall to see if that helped, but no luck. I'm running IE7 (also had trouble accessing the internet when I installed IE8). I have a USB Netgear wireless adapter. Let me know if there's anything else you need. Thanks in advance for the help.
