Ultra Slow Windows 7 to Unix File Transfer
Hello; I am running a Win 7 SP1 machine at work. This machine is connected to a SCO Unix Server. Our employees access the server for the purpose of storing photos. To open the proper folder, it takes 3 to 4 minutes to access the folder on the Unix. Once the folder is opened, all is well, and the photos transfer with no problem. It is just getting the folder to open that is the problem. It used to take 5 seconds to open the folder, and now it literally takes 3 to 4 minutes. All XP machines access the Unix folder in 5 seconds. The Win 7 machine used to be quick, but after several Windows updates, it now takes too long. I have tried: updating NIC card drivers, disabling TCP IPv6, shut off firewall, disabled McAfee, replaced CAT 5 cable, replaced router, changed duplex choices, changed Domain Comp. mode, and DNS Name Resolution Required. None of these options worked. To communicate with the Unix, our software vendor uses Vision FS 3.0. I realize this is old stuff, but it worked at one time on the Win 7 machine, and now it appears not to. Any other help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated to speed up this process. Thanks!

It all happens behind the scenes, so it is difficult to answer. We have a database that is constantly communicating with the Unix server via the PC, which use Win 7 or XP. When we attempt to attach photos to a subjects data base, that is when we run into problems. We enter a one letter code, which tells the Unix we want to open their photo folder. We get a message saying the folder is opening, and then 3 to 4 minutes later the photo folder appears in Windows Explorer. We then drag photos to the folder. This works fine, again, it is just getting that folder to open in a timely manner. The software vendor blames Win7, because it works fine in XP. Although, it did work in Win7 at one time, but something has happend....

Hi, I suggest you change the NTLM level in Windows 7 in order to make it compatible with UNIX: 1. Click the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function. 2. Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". 3. Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level" and open it. 4. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". 5. Click OK and apply the settings. Hope it helps.
