USMT 4 does not work according to documentation
Hi After creating an offline store from XP "Windows.old" and then trying to restore just one user with the /ue:*\*/ui:testuser the user "testuser" isn't migrated. If I just replace the expression with /ui:*\* all users does get migrated. On an ordinary XP storage (from a live XP) the /ue:*\*/ui:testuser does work as intended?? Any help is much appreciated :-) Regards Samoht

Hi,Please make sure whether the testuser account is a local user account or a domain user account. If it is a domain user account, you need to type /ue: *\* /ui: Domain\testuser to migrate this user. For your requirement, you want to include only the testuser and exclude all other users. Please try to type /ui: %computername%\testuser to see if it works.References:User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0 command: ScanState SyntaxIdentify UsersBest RegardsDale

Is the account testuser a local account or domain account? If it is a domain account, you need to include the domain name. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi Dale and Arthur Thankyou for your replies I'm working as systems integrator (scripts etc.) and therefore need to have this completely in place. I've created a test scenario with one windows XP (alive) with the local user "testuser". If I do a Scanstate /all from that computer and loadstate /ue:*\*/ui:testuser to my Win7 testPC it works as documented. The win7 is a former XP, with local user "testuser" and then with a Win7 "clean install" on top. Migrating from the Windows.old with Scanstate /all is ok but loadstate /ue:*\* /ui:testuser does nothing. I simply need to find an identical syntax for loadstate that loads single users, from backups of both live and offline systems. I'll do some more testing tomorrow... Best regards Samoht

Hi,You may need to add /lac /lae after /ue: *\* /ui:testuser while migrating the local user from Windows.old folder. BTW, to use loadstate to migrate Windows XP users, you need to make sure that you are using administrator credentials.Loadstate syntaxBest RegardsDale

Hi Yep. I do that too (I've used USMT for quite some time; http://usmtgui.ehler.dk :-) I've just tested with /ui:testuser and without the /ue:*\* as you suggested, but then Loadstate just migrates all the accounts in the store. The funny thing is that it's ONLY a problem when running loadstate from a store that was created from a Windows.Old folder. When running loadstate from a store that was created from a running windows, the /ue: *\* /ui:testuser works just fine ??? Best Regards Samoht

I have found that the switched definitely do not work as expected for offline Windows (including Windows.old) captures. The problem I saw was that the domain for domain accounts was not resolved, so they act like local accounts. The local accounts to resolve the domain to the old computer name. What I had to do the exclude all local accounts was this: /ue:<old computer name>\* I would also like to exclude all domain accounts with a "-" character, but have not had any success. I tried both /ue:*-* and /ue:*\*-*. The weird thing is both of those excluded all accounts.

remember if migrating locally created accounts, the /ui: switch must be /ui:TestAccount. If migrating domain based account the ui switch must be /ui:<domain>\TestAccount. You would perform the following for best results: Local created account called testuser scanstate <store> /ue:*\* /ui:testuser /localonly /c Domain account created account called testuser scanstate <store> /ue:*\* /ui:<domain>\testuser /localonly /c You can also download the USMT GUI at http://www.wintools.com.au for testing include and excludes and for modifying the templates for capturing data.
