USER PROFILE SERVICES: Service failed to Logon
THE SOLUTION!! It is so simple! Microsoft or Windows "Restore Point". Just go there and restore your system to any date when your system was working right. In my case, an automatic update for Shockwave Flash Player caused my problem. I just went to the Restore Point and set the restore point for prior to the update and everything was A-okay again. You don't have to try any of allthat terrible advice that is being given for solving this problem.System Restore: a simple, trustworthy and quick fix by Windows itself! Hope this helps all those people out there having this same problem as I did. Which is how I figured it out. After reviewing, out of disbelief, all the bad advice being given; I came up with the solution from my own brain power. It is so simple, but since we neverhad System Restore Point in the versions prior to XP, I rarely think of it. I hope this helps a lot of people! Signed: Vee

To use the suggested methods (here and elsewhere) one has to be logged in as the system administrator. My laptop SysAdmin password no longer works: "The user profile Service service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded" is the errormessage (under Vista Business).Looks like the user profile file has somehow been corrupted? No matter what I try I cannot login as administrator so none of the "fixes" I have read actually work. "Endless loop" comes to mind. Any Suggestions? Thanks!

How can you go in and change 'anything' when your user profile doesn't exit and it said service failed to log on? We have no options but to hit 'ok' and then it shuts us down and pops back up with our user password space to enter that and when we do, it says "user profile serivce failed to log on. Thanks for any info.

btw...to do a system restore you can start in safe mode (restart, and press f8, then choose safe mode).once in safe mode click "start", type "restore" under search bar and "system restore" will be at the top of the menu (select and follow instructions).when it restarts after the restore it will take a little longer to start up, but just be patient, and hopefully it will work for you too!

Thanks!!! Do the System Restore worked beautifully. A far simpler process than the very complicated ones being suggested in other forums (and which the average chap should not be trying on their own). I have a sneaking hunch that in my case the problem occurred simultaneous with my Norton 360 running a scan. Kind regards, BV Gita

I know this topic's kind of old...but this "User Profile Services service failed to logon" thing just happened to me last night! I have no idea what to do to fix it. The "tutorials" about getting into the Registry and changing things makes me really nervous and I don't even know how to go about that. I installed Windows Live OneCare last night and immediately after I got the message when trying to logon to my profile (which is the main one). I tried doing the Restore Point option but I don't have any Restore Points other than the Windows Update that I installed right after installing Live OneCare! What do I do now? :( Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just had the same thing happen to me. F8 does not work. The funny thing is that I am just coming off an MS assignment as a contractor and I followed the instructions given to me by MS to remove the domain account for my work there. And this happens. Now, MS will give me no support because I am no longer working there. Can anyone help?

You can force it to turn off by holding onto the power button. Restart it then it should give you options of to restart the computer. Choose safe mode and you'll follow through. That's what I did since I couldn't log on as well. Had this damn laptop for ONE day only and this problem occurred already. Thanks a bunch to the one who posted this forum!!
