USB mouse and keyboard dead when waking from sleep mode
As the title says after putting PC to sleep (menu or key on keyboard) upon waking it with mouse buttons neither the keyboard or mouse works. I then have to use the reset or power button to reboot and upon rebooting I get the resuming windows message not the starting windows message.

Hi Mike Therewere several well documented bugs in the Windows 7 RC build associated with this issue. The bug appears when a hardware/software component fails to re-initializewhen the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernation or will not enter the suspend state. These bugswas seenon specific systems that havecombinations of certain hardware/software installed. We are currently evaluating the RTM build to see if these particular problems have been resolved. See the following link for a list of other threads hereon this topic and some fixes/workarounds that have been posted. Sleep/Hibernate Issues - Microsoft TechNet Forums SearchUpdated: Some users have reported that this bug still exists, to some extent,in the RTM build. Work on this continues and hopefully will be resolved soon. Be sure to check Windows Update often and look for compatibility updates. This particular bug has been tough to squash because it was associated with several different Bios/hardware/driver combinations. Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Hi MarkYou're welcome. This problem has been aroundfor sometime anddoesn't appear to be specific as to the affected hardware devices. The original information we saw indicated that it only affected certain systems with specific hardware/driver combinations. I think this was based on the telemetry data that was being collected, so this is probably true. It's always difficult to track down a bug like this since it can be reported in so many different ways, from an end users perspective. We may getone reportabout a blankmonitor when resuming, another focused on the mouse and keyboard not being able to wake the computer, and yet another aboutno hard drive activity light when trying toresume. In reality these3 scenariosare probablythe same issue which is basically a frozen system.Hopefully we will see this problem fixed in compatibility or hotfixupdate.Regards,Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Hi guys, I just installed the Final Windows 7 version (not RC or beta) onto an old N800C laptop with ati radeon mobile 7500 and creative SB USB zs2 video audigy card. Had hard time for some drives for the fraphic cards, and installed Creative's beta drivers. Now I'm not sure if related to any of those drivers above, but sopmetimes, when going back from sleep the PC looks being stuck. Screen is refreshed (clock changes), but laptop keyboard & mouse are not moving anything. Connecting to the laptop via RDP shows the following error in eventlog: ACPI 13 The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period .... How can I tell which Hardware or driver is giving issues? Thanks

Not sure if still related to the acpi error message (I played around with ACPI LID driver to get rid of this), but plugin in an USB mouse (didn't try yet with keyboard), makes it working properly with the mouse, while the Laptop touchpad is still blocked...

I'll ad my experience here as well since it's virtually identical to chfauc's. I have a Presario 2800T, and everything works great (no aero, of course). When the laptop goes to sleep mode, either by closing it or leaving it for an extended period, the onboard keyboard and touchpad do not respond. A wireless USB mouse, however, can work the system flawlessly - Just don't plan on typing anything :). I am using Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade.Any ideas?Ernie

Hi, I just came across this thread in researching my usb keyboard issue with Win7. I built this pc using an ASUS Maximus III Formula MoBo and Win7 Ultimate. I am unable to type with my Logitech usb keyboard on resuming from sleep mode. If I disconnect the keyboard and then reconnect it I'm good to go. I assume this reloads the drivers or "reinitializes" the keyboard (??). If I use an old PS/2 keyboard I have no problems ( I don't like the keyboard though). I don't wake the pc with any other usb devices. I've tried all sorts of things with the power management options to no avail. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this? Thanks very much. Tim

Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928631/en-us Scroll down the page and read Post Installation Instructions If possible, create an entry to every USB port you have. I had trouble with my MS IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 when resuming from sleep. Further reading: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/connect/USB/USB-Win7MigrationDLL.mspx Download the document from this page. It does contain the same instructions this KB has plus some good explanations of why this issue is still happening nowadays with current hardware. That document is worth reading, keep with you, you might need it again in another time.MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7

My wireless keyboard and mouse have stopped responding after waking up from a sleep/hibernate mode a couple of days ago. BTW, recently I updated my Win7 x64 to SP1, maybe that's the cause? My PC - Sony VAIO J, native wireless keyboard + Logitech wireless mouse, regular wired USB mouse don't work either. There are no any related error messages in Events Log. Where to dig for a solution?http://navin.biz
