I have uninstalled the USB - Universal Serial Bus controllers from the device manager as per forum suggestion (example: USB PORTS STOP WORKING Windows XP).I did that because I am having USB device problems.But after rebooting, the computer identify that there is new hardware to configure but it can not identify which one - and I invariably keep on getting the unable to complete Hardware installation.I restarted my computer several times.I have Windows XP professional, genuine software.Windows update page says I have all required updates.When using Hardware update wizard I answer yes to "can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?".I am afraid to download those free USB drivers from the internet. Is there anything else I can do? 1 person needs an answerI do too

The correct USB drivers will be included in your motherboard (chipset) drivers. Get the chipset drivers from either the computer mftr. if it is an OEM machine like a Dell or an HP or from the motherboard mftr. if it is a generic/home-built machine.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
