USB drive not accessable after encrypting with bitlocker.
Well basically I decided to encrypt my personal Thumdrive and after following the set up procedure in Bitlocker my drive was totally usable. I then turned of my comp and when i came back the next day and turned it on my Thumdrive became inaccessible. Basically when I go to computer it says that it is called "Removable Disk (E:)" and that the drive is empty of data. when I click on the drive I get told "E/ is not accessible. Access is denied" I can't find any way to make it Accessible. Please somebody help.

Did you encrypt with a password? And save the recovery file on the drive or print it out?How do I use the unlock options in BitLocker Drive Encryption? [This content is preliminary and subject to change.] When you encrypt a fixed or removable data drive using BitLocker Drive Encryption, you choose a method for unlocking the drive. The method you choose depends on the type of drive you are encrypting, the flexibility that you want, and any requirements set by your organization (if you are encrypting drives on a work computer, for example). The following is a list of unlock options and the benefits and restrictions of each option. Password A password is a string of characters used to access information or a computer. For more information about passwords, see Tips for creating strong passwords and passphrases. You can use a password to unlock fixed data drives (such as internal hard drives) and removable data drives (such as external hard drives and USB flash drives). Passwords allow you to use your encrypted drive on both home and work computers or share the drive with other people. If you want to unlock a drive on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows XP, you must use a password to encrypt the drive. You can change your password in the BitLocker Control Panel.

Hello there Susan Bradly,I encrypted the drive by using a password. Now when I plug the thumdrive into XP I get the following message "The drive cannot be unlocked by the Bitlocker To Go Reader. The Bitlocker To Go Reader can only unlock fully encrypted drives. To gain access to this drive, insert it into a computer running Windows 7 and complete the encryption process." The thing that I don't get is the fact that my computer told me it had completed the encryption process. I will try it on another Windows 7 comp today as i only have one Windows 7 comp.Does that help? Thanks for your time, Bentree. EDIT: If I plug the drive into a Windows 7 computer I get told that I need to format the drive in order to access it.Also I saved the recovery file on my computer and I also printed it out.

Well as a last resort I decided to format the Thumdrive and well Windows 7 told me that i couldn't do that. So i went to the XP computer and formatted it with that computer instead. Once formatting was complete I then used a program called "recuva" to recover all the files. Now I know this was a bit drastic but it worked. Thanks to Susan Bradly for attempting to help and yes I know this probably was not the right way to solve the problem.

Hello Ben, I would like to ask your recommendation on following scenario: I used Windows 7 Bit-locker to Encrypt my External Multimedia 500 GB drive which had 400 GB of data approximately. Encryption only finished 92.5% after 24 hrs or so when i decided to decrypt it and while doing so faced connectivity problem. I cant access my external drive now and It comes up as RAW format on my Windows 7 machine but when I connect to Windows XP computer , I do see the LOCK sign displayed but it asks me to connect to Windows 7 machine to finish encryption. Please, guide me what can be done or which download should I use in order to recover my data. I do have the Serial Key and Password file generated by Bit-locker at the time of encryption.
