This is getting irritating enough I am tempted to go back to XP. Every time I plug in a USB device to charge it, for example my GoPro helmet cam, or just have an empty USB cable plugged in to one of the PC's ports and leave it on my desk so its ready to plug something else - I get that P.I.T.A. message popping up every couple of seconds.It won't go away either, it just keeps popping up again and again. I have the all the latest updates, including the latest service pack. I powered off the CPU by unplugging it for 5 minutes and it still pops up whenever I plug in a cable or a device like one of my pocket video cams just to charge it. Is there a fix for this or not?

I just ran into the same problem. Problem with printer, unloaded everything, unplugged the thing (both ends of USB cable). When plugging in the USB cable to the PC, Window 7 recognizes it as a device, tries to install drivers, then unistalls it. Very annoying having to hear that 5 times every min.

I don't get why it has to be like this. My Gopro is plugged in right now to charge, and the annoying $#@! USB sound is going on and off every 2-3 seconds. Like, yeah I get it windows, you can't recognize the device, but do you need to remind me every 2 seconds. I have yet to find out how to disable this as well. WHY does windows 7 do this?, and this is a recent thing, when I first bought the gopro it never did this, plug it in and let it charge and that was it. My wife's Dell laptop has Vista on it and it doesn't even do this. Having said that though, Vista is still such a POS of an OS she can't use it for more than 15 minutes without it locking up or blue screening, I was going to purchase Windows 7 home premium for it, but now I am ready to just load my old XP on it.

Install the driver you download manually. If the issue persists, please copy usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf (c:\windows\inf) from another known Windows 7 computer to problem computer. Also I want to know some information about the power supply of your machine, for example the voltage your power-supply device, the quantity of your disk and CD-ROM. If you use several HDDs or CD-ROMs, I suggest that you may try to uninstall some device and try again. Since I suspect this problem is caused by power supply. In addition, please collect the hardware installation log file in the path of %WINDIR%\Inf\Setupapi*.log, upload the file via SkyDrive and post a link here.
