USB PORTS STOP WORKING Windows XP
after being idle for a while, the computer's usb ports do not function properly. A USB mouse and USB keyboard are plugged in. After switching the mouse to the various remaining 4 ports it may finally start working again. I have checked all windows updates and installed them. this has not corrected the problem. i have even changed my screensaver to a different saver with no luck. this only started recently and no new hardware or software was installed. any ideas?2 people got this answerI do too

Hello HawkisRabbit Make sure all USB devices are unplugged Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right-click the device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers and then click Uninstall to remove it. Repeat this with every entry under Universal Serial Bus controllers until they are all gone. Reboot your system, and windows will detect the new hardware and re-install the drivers. Under normal circumstances, this should be enough to get your USB ports working again..
