USB Devices not working
I have a desktop running windows 7 home preimium and a laptop running window 7 ultimate. the other day i plugged my phone in to put music on and it said that it couldn't find the driver and the the usb device was not working. i tried on both my desktop and laptop with no luck and thoght that it was just an isolated incident. however, today i tired to plug in my external hard drive and that recived the same message along with two other devices that i know work. i know that my usb ports work as the devices recive power and i have a tv tuner and a wireless key board reciver plugged in and they both work. how can i fix this?

1. Update all USB device drivers to the latest versions. 2. let’s reinstall USB controller to see if it resolves the issue. Use the Mouse ================ First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps: 1) Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary. 2) In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK". 3) Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically. Use the Keyboard ================ First, please disconnect all USB devices. Then, go through the following steps: 1) Press "Ctrl + Esc" to open the “Start” menu. 2) Type “devmgmt.msc” in the Search bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary. 3) In Device Manger, press Tab and use "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". 4) Press "Right" and expand it. 5) Press "Down" to move to the first item and press "Delete" to remove it. 6) Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all controllers automatically. For More Information and help related to windows 7 usb problems go here

Hi, Is it true that the external hard drive (and two other devices) failed to work on both desktop and laptop either? Have you tried with different ports? Does your USB mouse work? If all of them work before, system restore can be under consideration. Open device manager, expand Universal Serial But controllers, try uninstalling all the drivers and restart PC to check the result.
