UNC browsing in Windows Vista very slow.
Hi team,
I am experience slow network response from some Windows Vista users stations when trying to open a spreadsheet file from a network share resource using UNC browsing. Sometimes, it takes more than 5 minutes to open a file wich in another Windows XP
user station takes only few seconds. TCP/IP settings already all checked! Is there any auto tunning or MTU size on Windows Vista that I could disable or set to improve this or, perhaps, solve it?

Hi,
You can disable autotunning feature using the following command in elevated privilege:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
If you have any problems, then to turn auto-tuning back on type the following in Command Prompt:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

What about accessing the shared folder using \\ipaddress\folder?
BTW,please boot in Safe Mode with Networking and access the shared folder for a test. Best Regards

Hi Dale Qiao,
On safe mode, it took about 1 minute and a half. No big change! I captured frames from the station using Netmon. Can you open a workspace to upload the file to you?

Hi Dale Qiao,
I just uploaded to you 2 (two) files saved from netmon. Please, take a look and try to help me discover why this Windows station, in particularly, takes so long to open a network file wich others opens it almost instantanely... . Ah, the file is an
excel spreadsheet called teste.xls

Hi,
From the netmon, I noticed that you enabled IPv6 in Windows Vista, please try disabling IPv6 to see if you can access the network share faster. Please refer to :

BTW, please read:
A long delay occurs on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008
when you run an application that uses a UNC path to access a network resource

Sorry, I am late! Just today I could read the articles and make the procedures for labs tests. Right now, our Windows Vista received the following commands:
0. Firewall is off;
1. IPv6 is disabled;
2 Antivirus is disabled;
Perhaps, copying files from the network still taking too long; Windows Vista shows up 66.9KB/sec at Windows Explorer. No change! On time, I have captured new network traffic and sent to your workspace area. Please, check for the new files
"alvorada_netmon_filtered.v2.cap" and "alvorada_netmon_full.v2.cap".

Doing the same file copy with a command prompt and see if the issue occurs.
You can use the following command:

Hi Dale Qiao,
Today, after making your procedures, I decide to make another one; I change the station ethernet port to plug on another switch, and the problem was gone. So, in other words, no Vista fault!
