UAC not working correctly for installers after Hibernate
There seems to be an issue with the installer on Windows7 RC1.After resuming from standby or hibernate, clicking an install icon with the shield (UAC) does not display the normal UAC window. The installer hangs waiting for permissions.A system reboot appears to fix the problem. (Until another standby or hibernate.)Explicitly running applications as administrator appears to work.

dpwalia - If you look on the task bar, do you see the UAC shield icon anywhere when you've clicked to start a setup like this? I've noticed sometimes Windows 7 RC will load or begin to load stuff that trips the UAC, but the screen doesn't change, the prompt doesn't show up - only a flashing icon on the desktop with the UAC sheild. If I click that, the screen darkens and the prompt shows up.

Hmm, I tried to reproduce it again today, with other installers, but it didn't appear to work.Yesterday, it was an installer that did not trigger UAC on launch, but only afterward. It's "install" icon had a shield on it.I'll try to reproduce it with the same program later. (Java installer: jdk-6u14-windows-x64.exe . . . I was later able to install it from launching it from an admin CMD.) No, I did not see any UAC window. I tried alt-tabbing through my windows, but I was unable to find it.Okay . . . update. It looks like it may be an issue with windows installer. Not necessarily that it doesn't work, but it takes a long time. I tried uninstalling the application via the control panel, and it took four or five minutes for the UAC prompt to appear. (I was busy with other things, and perhaps more patient.) At that point, the shield icon did appear on the taskbar.

dpwalia - Ok.. What exactly does your computer have under the hood and what are you running on it at the time? If it's an older box, things may take a while to happen. Or if the system's busy with a bunch of tasks, it maytake UAC a second or so to pop up.

Hi Wolfie2k6,Yes, my system is a little bit older. It's a Core2Duo 1.6Ghz laptop, running in power saving mode. (so the processor could potentially be running at 800MHz.)Memory usage is around 1.2GB out of 2GB installed. I have a bunch of web browsers open, and a couple command prompts, text editors, and pigeon. So, nothing processor / graphics intensive.I did notice that the har drive light stayed on for a while. I'm not sure what it would be scanning for for however. (The only thing running that should be accessing the disk is the installer, or possibly the windows indexing service, as it has not been disabled.)No virus scan is presently running on the computer. Thanks,David

David - Ok... It would stand to reason that it'd be fairly slow if it's in low power mode. So what happens if you've got everything closed?
