UAC highest level, but without safe desktop - Possible?
Win7 Ult 64, I want UAC at the highest level (=alarm sensitivity) but WITHOUT safe desktop. Reason: WinTV hates save Desktop, recordings fail when UAC prompt comes up, WinTV crashes often etc. In Vista it was easy to do with gpedit, disabling the "switch to safe desktop", leaving everything else normal. (I know exactely the security hole this setting creates, no explaining please) In Win7 such detailed setting is not possible, I tried the gpedit.msc and regedit way, but it gets ignored. Level 3 is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin"=dword:00000005 "EnableLUA"=dword:00000001 "PromptOnSecureDesktop"=dword:00000000 Level 1 (highest) is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin"=dword:00000002 "EnableLUA"=dword:00000001 "PromptOnSecureDesktop"=dword:00000001 What I want (i.e. set) is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin"=dword:00000002 "EnableLUA"=dword:00000001 "PromptOnSecureDesktop"=dword:00000000 But: The "PromptOnSecureDesktop" is ignored, exactely as the gpedit.msc setting is ignored. Now: How can I get back the behaviour I had in Vista where I could turn off the secure desktop without lowering the sensitivity of alarms?

Via group policy object works!just change the behaviour Promp for credentials on secure desktop and pickup anyone you want....if its not working via GPO something must be wrong wit ur windows...Regards,RR

You are right! I have to set both, the "normal" Safe-Desktop setting like it needed to be in Vista (German Install: bei Benutzeraufforderung nach erhhten Rechten zum sicheren Desktop wechseln = deaktiviert), AND the setting for "Behaviour in Admin mode" (German Install: Verhalten der Eingabeaufforderung fr erhhte Rechte im Administratorbesttigungsmodus = Eingabeaufforderung zur zustimmung) Now, how are those two named in English? I am quite fine. Evening after work. Slept for 30 Minutes. Watched Simpsons and Family Guy (watched is an exaggerated). All in all: A lazy evening were I did "nothing useful by definition". Later some Southpark on TV, if I don't miss it. Well, I asked how they are named in English mainly because someone else might need it. I am sure I will find the options right out of the box when looking at an English install, I use both languages daily. But a few more languages won't hurt. Set
