UAC Prompt when downloading basket in Windows update catalog
Hi, I would like to allow non admin users to download device drivers in Windows update catalog. The issue is that those people will pop UAC prompt, when the time comes to point the hard disk location to download the driver basket, see dialog. Any way to get rid of the UAC pop up ? After all this is only a download to a my document location. I mention that the corresponding active x has been installed without any error.

1. Not sure if is is reasonable for nonadmins to work with device drivers. 2. I do not see the UAC windows in your question thread. 3. There is missing information on the security model, is this workgroup or active directory domain? Regards Milos

Please let us know your environment as Milos stated. Also, did you try to modify the User Account Control settings? Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com.

Do we have any solution to this problem as i am experiencing the same issue. So here is my issue:- The users in my company who dont have local admin rights on their machine wants to downloaded printer drivers from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com and most likely due to UAC restriction they are not able to download it. - If i try using Admin rights i get prompted from UAC security check and once i click ok it allows me to download it. - I dont want to disable UAC on the dekstop machine and would like to have users (Non-local admin) to download these drivers from Microsoft Catalog website. I am not able to find any solution on the internet using which i can bypass this security check, is there a way to make this work. Ali

Hello,I have just noticed that i left this question as is without providing enough details, so here we are: We are running a customized W7 enterprise build inside a domain. We decided to let NON admin user install printers like on the previous post. We have set up GPO's to allow Printer Device driver to be installed by non admin users since most of them have their own printer at home, and they want to be able to use it. In the meantime, the organization does not want to handle the related support since this is for business usage at home. The best compromise is to leave enough right for users to handle printer driver installation on their own. The choice of pointing them to Windows catalog is even better since the driver we are finding there have been proven to work with windows 7. Only the UAC prompt to point download location is breaking the whole concept :). I hope there is an acceptable solution for that.
