Two hard drives - What to set page file at?
I have two hard drives, Windows is installed on C:, what should I set my page file settings for best performance? Hard drive space isn't an issue, I have a 250gb and a 1tb drive, both are less than half full. I have 3.25gb of DDR2 RAM. I have heard moving the page file to a second hard drive is beneficial, since the OS files and page file could be accessed at the same time. Will setting a very large page file or having a page file on both drives hurt performance? Does a variable size vs. a constant size matter?1 person got this answerI do too

For guidance on page file sizing, see the "How Big Should I Make the Paging File?" section of Pushing the Limits of Windows: Virtual Memory.

So will having a page file larger than it needs to be negatively affect performance? Will having 2 page files work better than one? Are there any drawbacks if hard drive space isn't an issue?

There shouldn't be any noticeable performance differences if the page file is larger than "necessary". If your system can accommodate it, it is generally considered to be a performance benefit to put the page file on a physical drive other than the one the OS is installed on, provided the other drive doesn't see a lot of IO already. Using a constant / fixed size can eliminate fragmentation of the page file that can occur if it is dynamically sized. If you plan on relying heavily on the page file, perhaps reconsider and add more RAM to the system if possible, or consider upgrading to a 64-bit machine and OS that can handle more RAM.
