Two NICs with identical gateway metric
Windows Vista Business with SP1I have two NICs in myVista Business SP1 machine - one NIC is connected to our corporate network, the other NIC is connected to a private network. Both networks are using DHCP, with the private network obtaining it's address from a LinkSys WRT54G (not being used asa router - just a switch with DHCP).The problem I having is that both networks end up with a entry in the routing table for 0.0.0.0 with the same metric. So anytime I try to access the internet (which should always go through the corporate network), I have a 50-50 chance of actually succeeding. How can I keep this from happening?Thanks....--Bruce

Hi Bruce, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Open an elevated command prompt. 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: route delete 0.0.0.0 3. Go to Network and Sharing Center, select Manage network connections. 4. Right click the connection which accesses the private network and choose properties. 5. Find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4 in the list. 6. Click Properties, and then input the IP address, Subnet mask and DNS server settings manually. (Note: Leave the Default gateway empty.) 7. Then click OK to apply the settings and close the window. 8. Please reboot the computer to check the results. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Nicholas,Thanks for your response.Using route delete is my workaround right now, however, I find I need to do this several times a day.Using a static IP address on the private network is certainly an option, but it kinda defeats the purpose of having DHCP, doesn't it?I was hoping for a more elegant solution. The TCP 4 Advanced Properties page has a place to enter theInterface metric, but I can't seem to find good documentation on how I mightuse that in this situation.Thanks....--Bruce
