Tweak for Windows Explorer?
In Windows XP, I could select, open and save multiple consecutive or contiguous files in windows explorer with any application, and the selected files would remain highlighted in explorer after I closed the application. When I try the same process in Windows 7, the files I have selected, opened, saved and then closed lose their highlighting in explorer, so I cannot immediately ascertain which files I have just worked on. Is there a tweak to change this behavior?

As I remembered, Windows XP de-highlights the previously selected files after closing the Windows Explorer window. Did you install some third party software to realize this feature? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
