Trying to connect a new PC wirelessly.
***************************************************** Adding a device or computer to a network. Log on to the computer as an administrator. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change. If the workgroup name is not WORKGROUP, change the name to WORKGROUP, and then click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel to close the Computer Name Changes dialog box. Note If you have to change the workgroup name, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Restart the computer, and then continue with the steps below. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections. Click the wireless network connection icon, and then, under Network Tasks, click View available wireless networks. Choose the wireless network from the list that appears, and then click Connect.******************************************************I changed the workgroup name to WORKGROUP and it prompted a restart. All was fine until I get to step 6. When I get into my Control Panel>Netwok and Internet Connections>Network Connections.. I don't have a "wireless network connection" icon. All I have is a single icon that is entitled "Local Area Connection". I've pretty much attempted everything. I've installed a wireless PC before and everything worked fine. I put a Linksys setup program (Linksys Easylink Advisor) on a flashdrive and installed it to my other computer and that was that. When I attempt to do the same thing with this new computer I get an error saying "Wireless Adapter Not Detected". I waited the thirty seconds before attempted to detect it and I am sure I put the adapter in correctly. Can anybody help me out, please? 1 person got this answerI do too

You forgot to tell us what wireless network adapter hardware you're using but it would seem that if you installed this, you didn't install the drivers for it or the wireless adapter isn't working. Normally you don't need to go through all the steps you listed to join an existing wireless network. All you need to do - if your wireless network adapter on the computer is working - is click on your wireless network and enter the encryption passphrase to connect.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
