Trying to automate wired, wireless, and ad hoc wireless networks
Here's the configuration I'm trying to setup on a Win 7 laptop: Wired ethernet - This may or may not be connected. Wifi connection - When not connected to the wired ethernet, the wifi may be connected to a WAN (infrastructure). Second potential wifi connection is to an Epson printer via an ad hoc wireless connection. This connection may be up when the wired ethernet is plugged in or not plugged in (ie, not connected to any network). The reason for the above configuration: Setting up a connection in a college dorm. Dorm provides a wired ethernet. It is forbidden to connect anything other than the laptop to this connection (no hubs or routers). The printer is in the dorm room. I'd like to be able to connect to the printer whether or not the laptop is plugged into the ethernet or not. When outside the dorm room, the laptop may be connected either via ethernet or via a campus-wide wifi c How would I set this up? I can't set a manual IP address for the wireless connection since it needs to use DHCP when connected to the campus wifi. When connected to the ad hoc network, I've seen two different addresses picked up - either a continuation of the last address assigned by the campus DHCP server or an 169.254.xxx.xxx address. Any help would be appreciated!
