TrustedInstaller - can't push software to multiple pcs
I need to be able to push software packages to pc's. This includes deleting files in the "Program Files (x86)"/<software dir>. I do not want to have to manually take permission of the folders. Is there any way to do this for a group of pcs thru group policy or something. I will move this to group policy if that is a more appropriate forum. I am an administrator on the pc's in question. I am testing with one pc at the moment and set the UAC to never. However, this does not allow me to install my software remotely. Any help? Karon W

Hi, You may use the Group Policy to install software remotely. But this software need to be packaged as MSI format. Meantime, if you want to delete some files, you may run a startup script. This script is run with system privilege. We have software to push installs. The problems are: 1 - software push/install must be done as "System" instead of an admin logon (ie Domain admins are in the local admin group, and I am a domain admin). This makes the owner of the software directory "System". When I use my logon (domain\name and password) the push fails - since KACE (the push software) is also in the Program Files (x86) directory. 2 - the directory c:\program files (x86) is owned by "TrustedInstaller" (local account in windows 7). This precludes the delete or renaming of files in the software directory (Now owned by "System"). Files will also not copy to the directory. I have tried using group policy to change the access /ownership on the (x86) directory with no success. When the update msi runs, the old file is renamed with a suffix of .bak (or with subsequent upgrades a date) and the new file is put in twice- once as the base file name and once with the suffix .new. Also - the "TrustedInstaller" service is currently not running. Should it be? The files i am having a problem with (besides not being able to push the software with domain admin credentials) are run from bat files that do not need to be recreated at each logon. This only applies to Windows 7 pc.s. XP pcs are not a problem - so, what can be done about "trustedinstaller"???Karon W

Hi, The KACE is a 3rd party application, we cannot support this. You may contact Dell support for help.
