TrustedApplicationPool and failover.
We are running Lync Enterprise with a backup (fail over) registrar on the FE server and our users/offices us a SBA with their own registrar. In the case that the SBA stops functioning they can use the FE as registrar. This works so, so far so good. We also
use a program called Peter Connects that is running on a different server and has his TrustedApplicationPool and endpoints on the FE and also uses the FE as registrar. What I am wondering what will happen in our FE stops working with the pool and the endpoints?
Some people will say that is does not matter where the pool and endpoints are registered but I don't believe that.
I think that if we want the Peter Connects to also use that fail over the pool and endpoints need to be moved to the SBA, same as our normal users. Can somebody confirm me if I am correct in this? Also, if we need to move the pool and endpoints what is the
best practice to do so?

You will have limited functionality if you are registered to a backup registrar pool, that is for sure. Now Peter Connect is a trusted application, as far as I know you cant register that in a backup registrar, as it isn't the same as a Lync user.

But are we able to install on the SBA the working application pool and if so will it work or is this a limitation that a application pool can not registrar in a backup registrar.

The Trusted Application model is topology-wide so any Pools or Registrars will be able to interact with these.

Jeff thank you for that information.
But I still don't have a definitive answer to the question what will happen if the server where the Peter Connects connects to as application pool and endpoint registrar? Will it still function because, as stated by Jeff, the application model is topology
wide or will it go down?

That just depends on how that 'Peters Connect' application works and which system is opening the outbound connections. Anything FROM Lync to the defined Trusted Application target will work, but we can't answer how connecting INTO Lync might be affected
on the third-party application.

The Peter Connects connects to our Mediation Server. The only thing I need to know what will happen if our Mediation Servers stops running? Will it fail over just as a normal users or can't it fail over due to the fact it is a Trusted Application+Endpoints.

The developer of that application will need to answer this as it depends on the capabilties of that application.

OK, thanks then I know that is does not involve Lync but the application

Hi Jeff,
I am looking into the customer who has Lync 2013 Enterprise Edition Pools in two central sites ( Production & DR ). in their production pool, I have defined Their RMXs and DMA as Trusted application servers under video.domain.local pool.
In case of Production environment down, Would calls to RMX conference work even though it has been defined in production central site ?

Trusted Applications are topology-wide so it does not matter which site they are defined in.
What does matter is the Pool FQDN used in the Trusted Application Pool configuration. If that pool is down then the functionality could be impacted, it depends on your exact topology.
