Troubleshooting Windows7 Server Core message...
attempting to run a .exe app on Win7 server core -- i get "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present." I need to know what subsystem is missing and how to enable/setup such a subsytem... Please help!

Win 7 is not considered a 'server' but rather a 'client' system. Perhaps whatever .exe you are trying to run needs a server.Rating posts helps other users

Hi Mark,so, on the machine where i have Win7 server core installed and all i'm presented with when i access the machine is a console with a prompt -- i can't double-click anything --- then, i'm to understand that even tho i thought i was installing a 'server' -- what i really installed was a 'client' --it is true, the .exe app that i'm attempting to run (which installs a storage mgmt app) -- requires a server --so, am i 'toast'Report post as abusiveplease let me know how to proceed from here in understanding the response "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present." It sounds like you are trying to create a 'file server'. Althought I dion't know what the app you are using needs, but the error sounds like your 'server core' is not enough. Windows Server 2008 is the latest OS available from MS. Maybe the documents for your app will include its 'system requirements'.Rating posts helps other users

I suspect the program requires the gui which is not available on server core? What program is it?Kerry Brown
