Trouble with multi-level DNS resolution in Win 7
Let's say I have a server named "server". All of the intranet pages on this server are set up as follows: http://techpage.server , http://itsupport.server, etc.
In XP, these resolve without issue, but in Vista/Windows 7, there are issues. This MS technet link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2009/04/16/dns-client-name-resolution-behavior-in-windows-vista-vs-windows-xp.aspx explains
why this is the case, and shows how to change it through Group Policy so that they resolve as desired.
I am still running into a couple problems, however. While the above works with Windows 7 Professional versions, I find that the Home Premium versions do not have group policy (or similar DNS registry structures) so I cannot figure out how to change the "Allow
DNS Suffix Appending to Unqualified Multi-Label Name Queries" on these machines.
Above this, however, is there a way to get this to work that does not involve changing these settings on Win 7 itself? Many of our users are logging in using
VPN/home computers, so setting up times to work on these individually is not possible, or is very time consuming. Getting these pages to work without IT intervention would be very helpful. I would alos like to avoid having to rebuild the server's web structure
to resolve this issue. It just seems like there should be a quick fix somewhere that would help with this, something simple that I'm missing.
Thanks for your thoughts/comments.

Hi,
If your system is Windows 7 Home Premium, you can try to configure it via Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Here is a similar thread for your reference: "Append these DNS Suffixes" not available.
Hope this helps
