Trouble opening most programs
Hi I recently got a trojan horse so I ran a virus scan and got it removed, however, since then I've had trouble opening a lot of the programs. Word and Excel, for example, always come up with the "choose the program you want to use to open this file" question (and I can't check the box for using the selected program for that kind of file option). I also can't get into the display panel (so I can't change the desktop background). Basically, it seems that all of my programs, except internet explore, have encountered this problem and I was wondering whether there was some way for me to fix it? Thanks for your help!1 person needs an answerI do too

Try this, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Type assoc .exe=exefile (note the space) and press Enter. You may have to restart the computer.

Unfortunately when I tried to open Comand Prompt it asked which "program do you want to use to open this file" and when I tried to search for Command Prompt all I could find was shortcuts. Thanks for replying!

The usual program is named cmd.exe but command.com does a similar job and they are both located in \Windows\System32. So, try opening a run window, type cmd.exe (or command.com) and press Enter. Now type assoc .exe=exefile (note the space) and press Enter. Type Exit and press Enter. If it’s successful, restart the computer.

I tried doing what you said but after I press enter it just sits there doing nothing. I've also restarted my computer but nothing seems to have changed. Any other ideas? Thank you so much for your help!
