Trouble connecting to lots of things.
I recently moved into my college dorm and ever since ive had trouble connecting to things like xfire, World of Warcraft, Steam, and Starcraft 2. While trying to connect to xfire i will get stuck at "getting Groups". Until xfire connects to groups i
cannot connect to any of the games mentioned above which can somtimes take up to 45 minutes. Once xfire can connect i have a very brief window in which i can stay connected to my games (with the exception of SC2). Note that while i have difficulty connecting
to games and other apps; i can always use my internet browser and skype.
When trying to play starcraft 2 i can connect (if xfire goes through) but as soon as i try to join a game i get blocked. And thats even if Xfire is connecting.
Heres what ive tried so far to fix this. I reinstalled windows 7 on a separate partition, Installed XP on a completely different HD, and messing with some of the connection properties like disabling or just changing random things to maybe get lucky.
Strangely i installed starcraft on my friends new iMac and i connected fine and played a couple games even. But when i used bootcamp on his comp and installed XP i could not connect.
Im completely out of ideas. The tech guy here has no clue what he is doing and is barely even here. Any idea would be much appreciated
Edit: just tested my friends mac again and he cant connect either anymore.

Hi Decheecko,
The college network may have sites blocked. There could be configuration issues with the network connection. You may need to use a proxy connection. So, information from the
system administrator (not tech guy) would be helpful.
Also, when you create the network connection, choosing public, which I would for security reasons, could cause some apps to be blocked by the firewall. So, check your firewall settings for these apps.
Other than those thoughts, there are too many variables in your situation to provide any other ideas.
