Trouble Backing Up 'Documents & Settings' onto External HD
I've used a large number of highly-regarded 3rd party apps to attempt to establish a backup up plan for my PC onto an external HD. All have been unable to successfully backup 'Documents and Settings' with consistent reports of 40+ errors, ultimately displaying 'failure' reports. Before I attempt this, I always disconnect from internet, so I can safely disable my AV programs and close every open app that can be safely closed. But even with this prep, I still can't get a good backup. I do regular maintenance on my PC (chkdsk, defrag, AV scanning etc) and my stable system show no other problems. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Related to inability to backup files the OS is using to run the PC, even after all other apps are closed etc.Am working as a BETA tester of 2nd Copy v 8. I was selected because I am only an average user and its developer wants to solve this problem for average users. This is more help than I've received anywhere else. Will report back in to explain what I'm able to find out as a result of a developer willing to work on this common problem with most backup software.

I believe imaging is best for restoring complete drives and backup is for the ability to restore specific files. Is there a free imaging program that does both well?
