Tremendous amount of malware that I just cannot get rid of. NEED HELP NOW!
I am currently using a machine that my parents originally got for my little sister. It has hundreds of infections on it, and no matter what I do, I just cannot make any progress at all. Spybot just scans over the infections and does not even attempt to remove them most of the time. My system is infected with Vitrumonde, adlaunch, admoke, and literally hundreds of others that I cannot even name. As I said, this was not my machine originally so I do not know how this happened, but the first scan seemed to remove several hundred infections and the computer ran at almost normal speed for about 3 days. Then it had slowed to a crawl. The next scan seemed to work for about 24 hours, and the third had the system back to its ridiculously slow speed within the hour. Now, it does not even improve performance at all. It is comparable to a computer I had more than 15 years ago! That is literally how slow it is. It takes over a minute to open my browser or load even the most simple website. I have tried a number of freeware programs, but they just don't seem to work. I cannot afford ANY of the pay programs, and I just don't know what to do. I have searched for the files in question and they do not even show up in the search results. I cannot download any of Microsoft's security programs because Windows says they may be harmful to my system and will not even download them. I cannot seem to change that either. This computer is maddeningly slow and it should not be. I am running a 3GHz Pentium 4 and it is running like the 75MHz CPU that my mother had in 1995. Literally. It is that bad. It takes 10-20 minutes to load media much of the time and I am at my wit's end. Spybot S&D does NOT work. It spends 25-45 minutes just scanning "virtumonde," and when I run it and "fix" the problems, I just run it again 10 minutes later and the files are back. I never would have let this happen, but I am not the one who did it. I am, however the one who will have to clean it up. So, can someone help? I am running Windows XP. Oh, BTW, I have tried to follow instructions TO THE LETTER to get rid of the infected files, but I cannot even get my system to list or display them under any circumstance, even in the registry. I have tried using the Command Prompt, manually deleting the files and cleaning the registry, and the spyware detection programs. Nothing works. Do I need to wipe the system and start over? Thanks in advance1 person needs an answerI do too
