Transfering data from XP 32bit to Win7 32bit
So here’s the scenario, I recently upgraded to Win7 from XP and I have installed all my necessary apps and configured my system to my liking. All I need to do now is transfer my data from my old HDD to my new system. I have my old HDD connected as an external HDD and my system does see the hardware. I want to move my file located in “E:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\” and everything in there. Every time I try to access it, the machine lets me know that I have to grant myself permissions. So I let it scan the data and from here I get trouble. It takes extremely long time to scan and then it freezes. I also tried 1. right click on [user folder] then properties 2. choose security then advanced 3. on Permission choose change permission 4. for example if your account name is "windows" select it and choose Edit ... 5. give myself full access and check the check box to apply it to all the folder Documents and Settings contain This process still scans my documents and still the same outcome halts to a stop and freezes. I notice every time it stops, it stops at the cookies folder and when its scanning the cookies. So my question is, is there any way to bypass this permission in order for me to access the necessary files?

Can you run the old XP? if yes, use Windows Easy Transfer to get the data. Now restore them to Windows 7."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221

I can still use the old machine it just that it's really slow, I thought of your solution and I may just give it a try... I was hoping not to revive my old system.
