Transfer problems between WinXP and Win7 Machines
I work in a small office that has both XP and 7 machines. We use a Win7 machine as our server, with a shared folder that contains most of our work materials. Some of our employees work with files directly on this server (for instance, accessing PSDs stored on the server from their own XP machines) Lately we've encountered a lot of server freezes. These seem to happen after pulling files over 1GB to a Win7 machine. The server PC still works fine, but once this issue occurs, it can only be accessed by Win7 Machines, when WinXP machines try to access it they receive a "\\server is unavailable" message. Rebooting the server resolves the issue temporarily, until the next large file transfer. Note that the server almost never freezes when pulling large files to an XP machine. I'd really appreciate the help as it is interrupting our workflow. Thank you.

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Disable “Remote Differential Compression” in Control Panel-----Programs and Features-----Turn Windows features on or off. 2 Try disabling Receive Window Auto-Tuning: 1) Go to Start and type cmd. 2) Right-click on cmd and select “Run as administrator”. 3) Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and press Enter. If you want to to re-enable it: Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal and press Enter. 3 Temporally disable firewall on both Windows 7 and Windows XP 4 When the issue occurs, try to use \\IPaddress\sharefolder to access to see the result 5 Disable network card and enable it again on Windows XP to see the result Hope that helps.
