Tiff image corruption under windows 7
I have an application that uses .NET 2.0 and it loads a TIFF format image from file. Under windows 7 the image is corrupted, while under XP that was not the case. The image appears to have its pixel values rounded to the hex pixel intensities of (00,11,22,33,..ee,ff). This effect is also present under windows 7 Paint, however other tiff viewers do not have this limitation. It appears to happen when the 8-bit TIFF has photometric mode set to MinIsBlack, and it doesn't happen when the 8-bit TIFF has a palette. Jay

Double check if your application supports Windows 7. This is out of the reach for me to guess how your application is designed. Regards Milos

Yes my application works fine under windows 7 for all other file formats, and even certain types of tiff's. But for others it is corrupted. The image below shows what an image of a simple greyscale gradient loaded as a tiff and saved by windows 7 MS Paint looks like. The original image does not have the dithering effect. The same file is displayed correctly by the windows photo viewer, which evidently is not based on .NET. Jay

I have checked a few Windows 7 systems. On all systems, the new windows 7 MS Paint always exhibits the problem (as it is part of the .NET framework where the problem lies). Both of these are Microsoft products. Thanks, Jay

Below is an image of what paint shows when the corrupted image is zoomed up. It should show a smooth gradient.

Hi Jay, I suggest you check the result on other Windows 7 system to check the result. Also use Windows Photo viewer to open the tiff file to see whether there is any problems occurred. If this issue occurred with other Windows 7 system, you need to contact the application provider for more help. Thank you for your understanding. Regards, Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support

Hmmm, thanks for the link, but I don't see horizontal black lines running through the image, and windows 7 photo viewer is fine with this image, so that doen't seem to apply. Jay
