Threat removal
Having trouble removing a virus. Trojan.ADH.2. When I try a full system scan my computer locks up. I have to do a hard reboot. When rebooting about half the time I find that the boot sequence in the BIOS has benn change and I get an NTLDR is missing error until I enter the BIOS and restore the boot sequence. I am using Windows XP Home SP3 with Norton 360 ver. 5.0 Any suggestions?1 person needs an answerI do too

Try to run full scan in safemode, restart your system and press F8 key repeatedly then boot in safemode and run full system scan and see result. You may try following online scanner too:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htmIf issue did NOT solved , then contact Symantec Support as long as you are using Norton:http://www.symantec.com/support/index.jsp

Thanks for the response. Keyboard does not funtion on reboot, so F8 key has no effect. I have to use msconfig to select safeboot in order to reboot in safe mode. Have run scan in safe mode and will have to see if system locks up again.

Had me d/l a cleaning tool which causes sytem to lockup everytime I try to run it. Would a Hijackthis log be helpful?

In any event, the malware you contend that has infected your system is what is known as a backdoor trojan dropper. It allows remote access to the infected machine. I recommend you post this issue on the free computer support forum on the link below to ensure your system is completely clear of all infections. You will be required to create an account prior to posting. The requirement is to prevent spamming and drive by post. There are no fees involved whatsoever. Simply create a new topic in the Virus/Malware support section stating you are infected. Your helper will take it from there.
