Thoughts on how secure is using Windows 7 as VPN Server
What are your thoughts regarding how secure it is using Windows 7 as a VPN Server for connecting to your home conputer or to a small office? I am used to the more traditional VPN Servers where I had to set up pre-shared keys, IP addresses and names all had to match before a connection could be made. It was quite complicated to set up and even after all that, you still had to log onto a computer on the network using a user name and password. (I'm thinknig of something like connecting to a SOHO VPN Server / Router / firewall device like from Netgear or Netopia or ...) The concern is that with the Windows 7 version there is no stopping someone from trying to repeatedly connect and you might never know when \ if they were able to attach... All they have to do is know your login id an password (and IP address which if more and more people use this it wont be hard for them to find one, possibly yours). What are your thoughts on this?

well the more secure way is to use a third party service...hamachi..google VPN...teamviewer...that way you do not need to open any ports so no one from the outside will even know the box is there.

Hi Smyth, Here is a guide from a MVP blog:How to Set up an incoming VPN on Windows 7 Please keep the firewall on and do not tell other the name and password. Then, it should be secure. Hope it helps.Novak
