I have got a laptop with windows 7 Home on it, and a PC with Windows 7 Ultimate on it but no matter what I try or do I can not get them to link together so that I can transfer the files between one and the other.. This is now getting beyong a joke! I thought Windows 7 was suppose to be easy to use! I can do it either via wirless or using a ethernet cable to the machine

Are you using the Homegroup feature of Win 7? If not, setup up the Homegroup on one system which will give you a password. Then setup Homegroup on the other computer using the exact same password. It works great. I have a netbook, a laptop, and 3 desktops all on Homegroup. All 5 share without any problems. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Are you using a switch/hub to connect the 2 computers? Wired? Wireless? If you are using a straight cable between the PCs, are both NICs gig capable? When logged into one PC; can you ping the other device?
