Isn't that the same as the Anti-Phishing feature of IE8 that shows you (by highlighting the real URL) if you're on a fake or real site?Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Hi Sanmartin thanksfor replying, and im not so sure of that ,im looking for some active tool to monitor and intercept any attempt to change the mac address something like MIM,but im not 100% safethat what im saying makes much sense but for what i've been reading i think im in the right way,i already added the NetworkAddress entry to clone mac address working with DefaultGatewayMac entry(for ras connections which is mine),but i want to be sure everything is working 100% safe!!i think what im looking for is a packet sniffer to monitor packets and stuff... i opened another thread about iif that makes sense for you i really apreciate a feedback! Thanks in advanceKind regards,RR

Hi guys, need help!!!i found a packet sniffer called SmartSniff and it doesnt need to be installed just run .exe file and it opens a window then i set the display options etc, and started capturing i can see the ipadresses and ports etc,and how many packets the problem is to run this program it needs to be elevated first and in my GPO settings i set to elevate only digitally signed softwares so i have to uncheck that as admin then run and switch back,my question is if i change permissions can i run it without having to elevate prompt?other questiions does it block anything like spoofed packets? or it just shows up those things only for personal info?last question i havent installed wimpcap filter(not sure about the name) does it affect anything?please need urgent help from the specialists!!!Thanks and advance and will be looking so forward for repliesKind regardsRR

Wow My system bugged a few hours ago and i may conffess i had hard times to fix it,thank God it worked!!!Lets start by parts :1- i was desperately trying to download .exe files but my windows GPO would block it say9ing that the file could be harmful etc,for a minute i thought it could be the anti virus blocking .exe files, but i searched in every part of the registry(Group policy object) to see if there was a left over bugged setting and i found it,had to remove the .exe and others from the high risk attachments and reset all the trusted logic attachment settings, and then fixed the registry manually afterwards i could download .exe files finally BUT when i installed Wireshark 1.2.1 version which is the latest vista compatible one think sucked my internet connection is a RAS dia-up interface and that was not supported by the winpcap filter then it wouldnt find the interface thus Wireshark wont start monitoring i tried everything as possible things like running in capability mode but no success as the web site assumes in vista wont support dial up or vpn interfaces(Bummer), i really like the wireshark interface and it looks like has lotta options for controlling and monitoring the traffic im really sad about it but not hopeless!!!So my question is does anyone know if theres any other similar that works for my type of interface (Hspa datacard, ras pppoe dial up whatever thye name is)?Need really support from you guys cause this is not a security doubt anymore but its about capabilty issue and looking for something compatible!!!!!Thanks in advance will be looking forward for replies!!!Best regards,RRPS. i couldnt restore to an earlier point dont know why it showed the error(0x8000ffff) when i boot up from cd to restore the point i created before installing antisniffer package) BUT somehow when i booted in safe mode after logged in the small windows shoed the computer had been restored successfully so it worked after logged in normally....???anyways thats fine .

i read about Microsoft Network Monitor 3.2 is that an actual packet sniffer?does it prevent or offer settings to prevent network attacks ?or it just analyzes the packets but it doesnt take any action to stop it?Regards,RR

One thing you should take into consideration, is this: All of these "packet sniffers" (hence the name) can be seen as spyware, as well as being useful network monitoring tools. It depends from the use. Ethereal (now Wireshark) was known as an excellent password spying software some time ago, despite its benefits. So far, I'm not too surprised that a relatively secure system like Windows 7 has its problems to let such type of programs do what they want. As usual, the user can rule this out with enough tenacity, but I'm asking me: Do you really want that? If you open the doors in one case, where will be the guard in another case?Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

Hello Sanmartin,Fisrts of all Thanks a lot for replying and Thats a quite disapointing answer=/ but depending of the POV its not...i always had this question in my subcounscient if that could be interpreted as spyware due to its functionality andguess it hasjustbeen answered....thinking about all those considerations i may ask you then well if i run the lion reaches me and eats me, if i stay Lion would still eats me (BR expression using others words might not make sense) in this case what should i do? how should i proceed? it sounds for me im in an endless street...im getting spoofed packets constantly and its a fact, whats the prior solution or most effective?for what you said not a gud idea to have those little things running, and guards may not be present in some cases HeHe...im sortta confused and wondering what else can i do? sit downand wait them forcoming and eat the whole meat?(not being ignorant didnt find another way to express exactly how i feel)Again will be expecting replies and apreciate ur explanations Kind regards,RR
