Thinking about Opening a Computer Repair Shop
Hello I am thinking about Opening a Repair Shop. I know its ok to Reinstall exiting OS that was on the machine from the factory. ( Recovery CD or Partention. ) Say a cusomer came in the shop and requested an Os install of the OS that was on there system from the factory and they didn't have a recovery cd and the recovery Partention was deleted or crupted. What would be the lagit way to handle that?

To get an exact match to the new factory condition: Contact the OEM computer manufacturer and ask them to send you an install disk for the computer - they may or may not do it. If they agree to send you one they may charge a small fee. For a general install: You can use a generic Windows 7 OEM disk (which most repair shops would have) with the OEM key on the computer, but you may have to call to activate. You'd need to get drivers from the web. Call Microsoft Using Manual Phone Activation If you are currently installing Windows - at the Enter Your Product Key page, do not enter your key and uncheck "Automatically Activate When Online" then click OK/Next to finish the installation. If you have trouble activating Windows 7 open the Windows Activation Wizard while in Windows 7 to obtain a phone number to call Microsoft and activate Windows: 1. When you reach the desktop click Start, then in the Search box type: slui.exe 4 2. Press Enter on your Keyboard 3. Select your Country. 4. Select the Phone Activation option, then call the number given and hold for a real person. Most of us in the service business try to accumulate media that we can use in this situation. For example, I make copies of every Dell media I can get my hands on. If I need to reinstall a Dell with (for example) an XP Home or XP Pro OEM labeled installation I use the appropriate Dell media (slipstreamed for latest service packs). This is perfectly legal and proper, and this case will not require activation. For some computers a Generic OEM media for the version on the computers MS label may be OK (for example Gateway labeled keys generally work with generic OEM media. Activation will be necessary. If there is no legitimate holographic label or the labeled key doesn't work with generic OEM media it can be a headache, and it is sometimes necessary to purchase restore media from the OEM. That "small fee" has been as much as $65.00 plus shipping in some cases I've seen and, of course, this may significantly delay the repair. You may run into other issues these days like computers where "anytime" upgrades were done to original versions so multiple issues are involved. Users often don't keep proper records or backups and these things need to be handled on a case by case basis. -- "Greg10947" wrote in message news:2735e910-8b08-49e2-a6ce-00ff899b76d9@communitybridge.codeplex.com... I don't see any cost benefit in maintaining that kind of inventory and don't see it as a wise investment. There are too many variations especially if upgrading from Vista. I prefer to purchase Windows on a case by case basis. Probably the most useful all around version is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but upgrade needs could vary considerably. -- "Greg10947" wrote in message news:906d8a43-1e54-430a-9a27-5774c4d31668@communitybridge.codeplex.com...
