The 5 machines are desktops. Two are brand-new Dell Models and three are older (1 year old) Dell models. They aren't sysprep. We've pretty much ruled out DFS, NIC Drivers, DNS and DHCP too. Our managed switch does not indicate any problems on the ports these five desktops are connected too. We've also pretty much exhausted several of the possible solutions within the Technet Forums.

Have you tried a clean install of Windows on one of them to see if there is a problem? Windows MVP, XP, Vista, 7. not yet, but it might be coming down to that. The strange thing is we recently deployed 4 brand new Dell systems with Windows 7, two of them are having the problem involving network share disconnects. The other two are fine. The three older Dell Optiplex systems Windows 7 are having this problem. the remaining 12 older Dell optiplex desktops with Windows 7 are prefectly fine. No Network share disconnects.

You've probably done this already, but can you swap one good computer with one "bad" and see if they still have the same behaviour? I mean plugging the good one into the network location where the "bad" one is and vice-versa. Please keep the same network cables so the only difference is the network port they were plugged in (plus the obvious MAC address diffference). rcanderson wrote: > > >not yet, but it might be coming down to that. > >The strange thing is we recently deployed 4 brand new Dell systems with Windows 7, two of them are having the problem involving network share disconnects. To HarryVerge, swapping the desktops is a good idea, but a bit tricky (thanks). each person has a dedicated work area and/or office at this client location. We'd have to get the okay from the client to transfer some local profile information and data between workstations and then recreate the local logon profile for the end user.

A co-worker of mine just discovered that Offline File Sync was enabled on the 5 desktops having the network disconnect issues. Each time gpupdate would run, the network shares would disconnect (outlook would remain connected to exchange - internet access okay). The network shares would reconenct in 5-10 minutes. He disabled Offline File Sync, and then than forced gpupdate numerous times without the shares disconnecting. We'll have to wait a few days to see if the issues continues after disabling offline file sync. I believe there's an tech article also available pertaining to this issue which I will post once I get it from my co-worker.
