The offline contents of Help and Support becomes corrupted.
I've had this issue since I installed Windows 7 RC. On the desktop, or from any Explorer windows, or any Windows components that have the [Help] button, when I press F1 key to display the help contents (or select from menu Help), it doesn't show the right contents. Example, here's the contents when I press F1 key from the desktop:__elbasuer____elbasuer__Marking a partition as active is an advanced task that should only be performed by advanced users. Marking a partition as active on a basic disk means that the computer will use the loader (an operating system tool) on that partition to start the operating system. The "__elbasuser__" appears many times in many topic of Help and Support, and I can't see any pictures of the topic. I alsoget this:Topic not found. The topic you are looking for is not available in this version of Windows. For additional assistance, see More support options. This issue doesn't happen when I select to use the Online help, but it remains when I use Offline help. Are there any ways to fix this? Do I need to reinstall Windows again using upgrade option?

The Help and Support section is among the lastcomponents to be fully functional. Please be patient and this issue will be resolved when Windows 7 is finalized.Carey Frisch

Very odd... Whenever I press F1 from the desktop, I get a help window that says "Find an answer quickly" with an invitation to search for an answer. There's another box that says "Not sure where to start" with 3 links below to other topics such as getting started, "Learn Windows Basics", etc...You might want to try an In Place Upgrade. Something definitly looks like it might have gotten scrambled in the help pointers.

So much for patience, I have just installed a clean Windows 7 release (Europe release version 22nd October 2009) and still have the same issue as mentioned above.Any fixes yet....???

Install the final version of Windows 7 (a clean install) and not the beta or release candidate and repeat your tests.

Here is the solution, I found after long time research. It`s caused by bluetooth software. I had the same "elbauser" corroptud help file. After you do this you`ll have windows original offline help files. If you have bluetooth in your pc, this is pretty much %100 problem causing help files to be corrupted. Click on Start, type regedit.exe in the Search field, and press Enter. Provide consent to User Account Control if prompted. In the left hand navigation pane, expand each registry key until you are at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\Topics. Delete the "BCRM_Bluetooth_Help" string value (REG_SZ). Close the Registry Editor and re-launch Windows Help and Support.

Had exactly the same Help corruption as mentioned above and solved it the same way by deleting the Bluetooth help file entry in the Registry. I had the full released version of Windows 7 Ultimate but had not noticed whether the help had failed originally or after I'd installed the bluetooth adaptor. Chris

son2012 YOU ARE A GENIUS! Excellent solution to this problem. I had no 'offline help' in Win 7 - till I read your post. Thank you.

I did not have that line "BCRM_Bluetooth_Help" string value (REG_SZ) showing in the regedit.exe and still have the same exact problem with the help and support that Michael Daniels had on top of the page in may 2009, any other thoughts?

I don`t have 64 bit windows 7 but I am guessing you guys have final version of w7 64 bit. (not RC-release candidate) My suggestion is if especially your bluetooth driver is "BROADCOM" (WIDCOMM) go to device manager or their web site and update driver for 64 bit (http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/determine_driver.php) I suggest try doing it from device manager first (right click bt driver, update driver, choose find update online) you may need to restart pc. (version number 6.2.0.9700 or higher) Check here also http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php Make sure bluetooth is turned on If you download from there make sure you read last line, it says Click "save" not "run" if you have windows 7 RC . Try if offline help files working if not, try again the solution (above, earlier post) to see if you can find that value in registry editor. If not broadcom, find everything related to btooth in device manager, update them all drivers.(While you are at it, check everything that needs updating) If you have AMD processor you may want to see broadcom amd support link. If you don`t have some funny w7, if everything is up to date (driver wise), if you didn`t damage the content of registry either manually or by using some registry cleaning software. It may result in seeing offline help files. I hope you get result but if not I would blame the"64 bit", as we all know support by hard/software companies is not there yet like it is for 32bit. Best of luck

I upgraded from windows vista by downloading windows 7 home premium (32 bit) from microsoft this past week. When I click on Help and Support, I get the elbasuer message and no help or support as above. I do not have the "BCRM_Bluetooth_Help" string. The System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) did not find any corrupt files.Help!

I have Win7 Pro 64-bit (RTM) and son2012's solution works perfectly with one exception. The registry folder with the key "BCRM_Bluetooth_Help" was "Titles" instead of "Topics"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\Titles Deleted the key and worked like a charm. Thanks very much son2012!

I have Win7 Home 64-bit and that solution doesn't work for me, either, MaddMan9. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\Titles (and there's nothing but \Titles under en-US for me) there are two possible items: -- (Default) and -- hp.npc.prjSolutions_en-US Yeah, HP stuck its big nose into the upgrade. But I'm hesitant to just delete that item without being sure it's the problem. I don't have ANYTHING about Bluetooth help in there. But I have several programs that keep insisting on referring to help files that I can't access until I fix this stupid problem.

Hrm.. I have the same _elbasuer_ problem, but I dont have anything Bluetooth, and this problem still exists. I get to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\, bu there is no "topics" section. Any other fixes?
April 15th, 2010 4:59pm

If you would have read some of the replies above, you would realise that @Son2010 has mistyped Titles as Topics. Ok, criticism apart, what do you see under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\TITLES\ That is, list the objects you see in the right. Cheers,

After a long time following the "blue tooth red herring": Do you have an OEM "help assistant" superimposed on Windows help? Try uninstalling it. In my case Windows Help is back in full glory once I uninstall HP Support Assistant. This takes a lot out of the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\Client\1.0\Namespaces\OEM section of the registry (so the bluetooth ideas were in fact a help in finally guessing the cause - thanks guys). HP needs to provide a Windows Help & Support Update for notebooks to fix this problem.

Hello..I deleted the same string (mentioned by fireblade007).the help and support center started working correctly, but now i am in tension that my personal data might be in danger (or that any hacker will be stealing it) Do u think that because of deleting that string, my personal data will be in danger?

Thanks mate. Son, U are a genius. It really helped. As other people commented, the "BCRM_Bluetooth_Help" file is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Assistance\C lient\1.0\Namespaces\OEM\en-US\Titles rather than "Topics".

Having read all the posts, I searched for Bluetooth on my computer but there is no sign of it. I also searched for the HP Support Assistant. Again, there was no sign of it. I registered my machine with HP and then I downloaded and installed the HP program which enables them to recognize your computer. I have no idea if these are essential steps but it is what I did. I know that my computer had the Support Assistant on it when I bought it in August this year. Somehow it had disappeared. I then downloaded the latest Support Assistant program from the HP site. I ran it and it installed. It updated and it works. I had tried to download the Support Assistant program before I undertook the preliminary steps above but nothing happened. It would not connect to my computer and would not download. I am now no longer getting that infuriating __elbasuer__ comment so hopefully it is fixed. I hope that this helps anyone else with the problem. Thanks you very much indeed to everyone who posted. The combined posts helped to fix the problem. All the best, John
