The local print spooler service is not running
Hi, I have Windows 7 64-bit users getting the following error. "Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." The users are printing to a network printer on Server 2003 and also printing to a local printer setup on the pc with USB. How do I fix this issue? Please help Nilakshi S. Batuwitage

Hello, Start/Run and type services.msc. In services console, right click on print spooler and selet properties. The click the START button. wait a minute and see if the service keeps runninbg. if the service fails to start or if it stops running, look in the system logs and post any errors.Naki K. / Falcon IT Services IT Manager for Mextone Corp.

Hello naki, I am not able to start the service as it stops immediately. The event viewer shows the following error. "The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly. It has done 3 time(s)". I see that there are 3 errors with EventID 7031 twice and EventID 7034. Please let me know how to solve the problem. Thank you, Nikki. Nilakshi S. Batuwitage

I’m sorry these KB seems not apply for Windows 7. Please try to follow the steps with this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810894 Then reinstall the printer, make sure the driver is support to Windows 7. First possible fix solution: Locate to your desktop -> Right-click My Computer -> Select Manage -> Highlight Services and Applications -> Select Service on the right panel and then double-click it-> Find out Printer Spooler option in the right-side list and then double-click to open Print Spooler Properties window -> set the Startup type as “Automatic” and then choose Ok to confirm the operation. When you have performed the above steps and you receive “Error 3: the system can not find the specified path”, then you will need to perform more steps to fix “the print spooler service is not running” problem: Open your Registry Editor (Start Menu -> click Run -> type regedit in the blank and press Enter key to open your Registry Editor) -> locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlset\Services\Spooler -> add new string value ImagePath whose value will be c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe. -> check whether there is spoolsv.exe on System 32 folder in your local disk and if you haven’t, you can copy one from another another PC to there. Besides, the print spooler service will depend on Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service so you need to make sure the RPC service has also turned on. -> If you cannot find out the print spooler service at the beginning, then you can export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlset \ Services \ Spooler entry from another computer and then import it into your computer. Hi, I solved this problem on windows server 2008 r2 simply removing all printers, because the problem may be caused by a printer connection and derivers too. So I removed all drivers and readding printers and shared for all my clients. I think that solution is apllicable to w7 too. I fear that was a spooler service problem from reg or system instability how I read in many others blogs I hope that can help you :)
