Please can you help

I just installed Windows 8

All my pictures on my external hard drive e.g. picture.jpg have changed to folders with same name. The icon in front of the jpeg name has changed from a picture to a folder. When I try to open picture, I get the 'jpeg is not accessible. The directory name is invalid.'

Hi,

It is such a strange problem as you state since Windows will not change your private file whatever the way you use to install Windows.

In addition to that, I infer the virus or the disk issue may cause the problem which you raised. Firstly, you would better scan the virus in safe mode because the virus may block the module of anti-virus software.

Then you can move this pictures to another PC. If it works, you can try to open Command Prompt as administrator, and run the command chkdsk c: /f to check errors and fix it.
